The Ladies' Fountain and its dolphins
Listed as a historical monument, the Ladies' Fountain was built in 1785 at the corner of the Besançon prefecture (according to the drawings of the architect Claude Joseph Bertrand). This sublime fountain was sculpted by Lulier and decorated by the sculptor Luc Breton.
Looking at this fountain, you can see in a stone niche, two embracing dolphins supporting a shell serving as a throne to a small bronze mermaid. Also, fine jets of water escape from the mammary glands of the mermaid.
On the upper part we find a Doric entablature that is decorated with triglyphs and a marble table. Here is inscribed the date of construction MDCCLXXXV8. There is also a framed coat of arms and a laurel wreath.
On the other hand, this fountain exposed in the city center of Besançon is a copy, because the original is kept in the Museum of Time.

The Bacchus Fountain
The name of this fountain reminds us of the viticultural activity that used to animate the Battant district in the past and the existence of an old fountain decorated with a stone Bacchus, the work of Claude Lulier in 1579. Alphonse Delacroix, the city's architect, designed the fountain in 1854. A talented architect, Alphonse Delacroix was responsible for the creation of the Arcier aqueduct in 1850. To celebrate the arrival of the waters of Arcier, the municipality decided to create three new fountains including the Bacchus Fountain.

The sublime fountain of the Place Jean Cornet
Finally, we decided to present you the Fountain of the Place Jean Cornet, a monumental fountain which is also one of the most beautiful fountains in Besançon.
Originally, the square was composed of a fountain that was destroyed in 1740 during the revolution. The current one was realized in 1900 by the sculptor Pasche, according to the drawings of the architect Saint-Ginest.
The inscription engraved under the pediment "UTINAM" is the motto of Besançon, which can be found in the form of "Plût à Dieu" engraved on other monuments.
